Namaste, Elsie Ray!

That's how they greet each other, on this side of the world. At the time you were born, we were in a plane flying to the other side of the world, to climb up to the highest mountains and go camping in the snow - for 10 days. We moaned & groaned, and said we were in pain with our hurting knees and aching bones; upset tummys and blah blah blah - but I don't think that was anything compared to how your mum was feeling. And I bet Dad was sweating a bit too!

We also climbed up to Annapura base camp, and had a view of the snowy world many many metres above where we usually are, and we felt on top of the world! - but I don't think that was anywhere near as good as your mum and dad are feeling.

We came back down and had a big celebration with all the sherpas and people that had helped us on our journey; everyone was happy and dancing and singing. Just like everyone has been celebrating about you. Now we know about you, we are going to raise a bottle of our favourite Everest beer tonight; and look forward to meeting you, and giving you all a big hug.

We are very glad to hear about you and the email in Nepal was slow to download.. but when I saw Elsie Ray pop up in my inbox I was very happy & excited !!

See you very soon

lots of love

Dear Elsie,

WOW, you're here at last and what a little belter you are!

We have been waiting for this day with baited breath for months - yes we have all suffered, not just your poor Mum you know…

I can't wait for my first cuddle, but at the moment while Mum recovers and you guys get to know one another I shall enjoy the tales and piccy's from ‘Uncle Ken' and the fab website that your clever Daddy has made.

I love the photo of you with your Mum and Dad. I see from the photo with your Dad that you already have him wrapped around your little finger. Now at this point I must warn you that little girls get away with blue murder with their Daddies but it's a little different with Mummy (especially your Mummy!! - I've seen her in action). Anything you try, she will have seen it all before and will definitely know how to handle it - so beware!

You are a very lucky girl who has a lovely Mummy & Daddy who will love you so very much.

Be a good girl for Mummy and don't wake her up too many times.

With Lots and lots of love, hugs and kisses. XXXXX

Dear Elsie,

Welcome to the world in 2007. I just wanted to extend the hand of friendship as I know what it’s like to be the ‘new one’ when everybody else seems to know each other. I thought I would send you a good luck card because, well ….. let’s face it ….. you’ll need it!

• Your parents have an excessive number of friends and you’ll be expected to remember them all. I find descriptive nick-names help (but you can’t always say them out loud). Could be an advantage on the present-front.
• You’re going to be one of the most-loved babies ever. If ever you’re fed-up hearing how clever you are or how cute your nose is …. Come to Portland for mild some verbal abuse. (Mind you, coming to Portland will make you realise just how clever and cute you are!)
• You’ll be dragged to the top of windy hillsides in February to fly kites.
• Your mother’s an expert in behavior management. Give up now, you can’t win. We all have.

Anyway, emergency numbers should you need them:

013xx xxx648 - I screen my calls, but just keep talking, I’ll pick up for you.

078xx xxx864 - For instant chat and fashion tips.

Looking forward to getting to know you.

With lots of Love XXX
